Important Information

Zoloft is an antidepressant which  belongs to a group of drugs called Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs). It works by balancing serotonin levels in the brain and nerves.  This medication is used to treat some types of depression, premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), social anxiety disorder (SAD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder (PD), and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Before taking this medicine

You should not use this medication if you are allergic to sertraline, or if you also take pimozide . Do not use Zoloft oral solution if you take disulfiram .

You should not use Zoloft within 14 days before or 14 days after using an MAO inhibitor. A dangerous drug interaction could occur. MAO inhibitors may include  isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue  injection, phenelzine, tranylcypromine and others.

Make sure to tell your doctor if you also take stimulant medicine, opioid medicine, herbal products, or medicine for depression, mental illness, Parkinson’s disease, migraine headaches, serious infections, or prevention of nausea and vomiting . Any interaction with sertraline could cause a serious condition known as serotonin syndrome .

How to take Zoloft?

Take Zoloft exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose.

You can take Zoloft with or without food, at the same time each day.

Zoloft liquid (oral concentrate) must be diluted with a liquid right before you take it. Carefully  read and  follow all mixing instructions provided with your medicine. Make sure to ask your doctor or pharmacist if you need help.

Tell your doctor if you have any changes in sexual attitude, like loss of interest in sex, trouble having an orgasm, or (in men) problems with erections or ejaculation. Some sexual problems can be treated.

Measure the mixed medicine with the supplied syringe or a dose-measuring device (not a kitchen spoon).

Sertraline may cause false results on a drug-screening urine test. So make sure to tell the laboratory staff that you use Zoloft.

Do not stop using this medication suddenly, as you could have unpleasant symptoms (such as agitation, confusion, tingling or electric shock feelings). Always ask your doctor before stopping the medicine.

Store tightly closed at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.

Zoloft side effects

Immediately contact your doctor or Pharmacist if you have signs of an allergic reaction to Zoloft: skin rash or hives (with or without fever or joint pain); difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Any new or worsening symptoms should be reported to your doctor, such as: mood or behavior changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, or if you feel impulsive, irritable, agitated, hostile, aggressive, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically), more depressed, or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself.

Common side effects of Zoloft may include:

• indigestion;
• nausea;
• diarrhea;
• loss of appetite;
• loose stool;
• increased sweating;
• tremors; or
• sexual problems.
